Welcome to first-time visitors!
The A2A database will give you precise and useful information about
archives in England and Wales. It is regularly updated, so visit often for the latest information.
However, there are some things to bear in mind:
The database does not work in the same way as a World Wide Web search
engine. It will search for the word or phrase you submit or
select as a search term. It will not find similar words or phrases or rank search results as
a search engine does.
The A2A database does not yet include digital images of documents. Nor
does it include full transcripts (copies) of the text of documents. The catalogues in the
database will help you find descriptions of archives,
but they are not always a substitute for the archives they describe. Contact details for contributing archives
repositories are available from the
Contacts page and from your search results, so that you
can arrange to see or order copies of the documents you are interested in.
For more information, use the Help with Searching
link at the left-hand side of this page, or click on the other links on the page.
An illustrated A2A database
information leaflet (2,652kb PDF)
(2005) has also been published by West Sussex Record Office staff. Please note that they are responsible for the content of the leaflet.
